The museum was established by the district council of Horodok in 2007.
Official opening was held on January 22 2010. Nowadays, the overall number of exhibits, presented to visitors, counts up to 800 items, which mostly date from the end of the XIX – to the beginning of XX century.
In addition, a lot of exhibits are preserved in the funds of the museum
In three museum rooms you can learn the history of Horodok through photos, old books, saved from the destruction by the NKVD, musical instruments, household items (clothes, furniture, antique tableware, embroidered paintings), exhibits of a religious character and through archaeological findings. For example, there is a silicon, dated from the XIII century.
Additionally, items of the period of World War I and World War II are presented in the exhibition, as well as modern items of the Revolution of Dignity and ATO zone periods.
An embroidery with a special Horodok seam is one of the most valuable exhibits of the museum (reckons up to 120 years).
Besides the permanent exhibition, different cultural and artistic events take place, including: literary festivals, art exhibitions, in particular the last lifetime exhibition of D. Blazhensky “Icon painted with thread.”
Horodok historical and local lore museum also cooperates and coordinates educational work with other institutions, including Lviv state College of Decorative and Applied Arts of I. Trush, Lviv historical museum etc.
