Museum of Volyn Icon
Volyn oblast is located in the north-west of Ukraine, its administrative center is Lutsk. In the west the oblast borders with Poland, and in the north - with Belarus.
The richness of Volyn is in its Old Russian monument of architecture and archeology, beautiful nature and enormous amount of lakes. More than 30 reservoirs are located on the territory of Shatsk national park, where people come for a vacation from not only Ukraine but also from other countries. Among them Svityaz - is the biggest and the deepest karst lake in Ukraine and the best natural tourist decoration of Volyn. In addition, Volyn - is a place of groves and forests, enriched with mushrooms and berries.
Historical and cultural potential of the oblast includes 837 historical, archeological, monumental arts, industrial and architectural monuments.
Thus, one of the biggest and oldest castles of Ukraine is located in Lutsk – castle of prince Lubart, which was built in the XIV century. Periodically, festivals and reconstruction of knightly tournaments take place in the castle, it is also a home for a few museums, including the only in Ukraine museum of Bells. Local “cherry on top” of the city – a “Great Wall of China” – is a building, length of which is 2 775 meters (taking the branch into account), which is considered the longest in the world.
A unique treasure of this area is the museum of agriculture of Volyn – skansen in Rokyni village. Here, you can explore the culture and everyday life of the Volyn village of XIX century, do horseback riding and carting, practice with ancient tools, taste lunch of Cossacks in the dusty house and many more.
Moreover, Volyn oblast – is the ancient churches in Volodymyr – Volynsk, chronicle history of which dates back up to 1000 years. The white stone Assumption Cathedral, built in 1156-1160s is also located here as well as one of the oldest museums of Ukraine – historical museum of Omelyan Dvernytsky in Volodymyr – Volynsk.
Here everyone can find something interesting – from an unhurried outdoor recreation, exploring ancient times or active journeys.
