The pearl of Zhytomyr – National museum of astronautics of S.P. Korolyov – located on both sides of a cozy street Dmytriivska, which saved its historical name. The museum is really easy to find – the modern building decorated with two rockets on the sides and with the bust of the founder of practical astronautics, a world-renowned scientist S.P. Korolyov, immediately draws your attention.
Across the street, out of modern one-building houses, the one with the number 5 really differs from the rest – an architectural and industrial monument of the end of XIX century. In this house, on January 12, 1907, a legendary Chief Designer Sergey Pavlovich Korolyov was born, and on August 1, 1970 his Memorial House-Museum was opened.
Opened in 1991 exhibition “Kosmos” is a continuation of a story about the creative heritage of S.P. Korolyov and at the same time it is a full image of a space museum, that connects the culture and civilization, cosmos of a starry night and cosmos of a human soul. Dynamic, artistically vibrant, with an unusual lightning and music, the exhibition corresponds with the modern life rhythm and desires of a modern visitor.
Today, the National museum of astronautics of S.P. Korolyov in Zhytomyr is a unique historical, scientific, cultural and tourist center of a regional and national significance.
Having a great scientific potential and experience, and clear perspectives of further development, the museum will remain a keeper of the “cosmic” memory, a cell of an active scientific as well as cultural and educational activity, a museum center that corresponds with the demands of a modern visitor.
