Dubno – one of the oldest towns in Rivne oblast, enriched with historical heritage and architectural monuments, the most famous of them are included in the State historical and cultural reserve in Dubno.
The reserve was established by the ruling of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on June 14, 1993 №444. There are 29 historical, cultural and architectural monuments of national and local significance on the reserve’s balance, including:
Dubno Castle (of Princes Ostrozky of XVI century, palace of Lubomyrsky princes of XVIII century, gatehouse of XVI century)
Lutsk gate of XVI century
Synagogue XVI
Church of the Transfiguration XVII century
St. George’s Church of XVII century
Carmelite Monastery of XVII century
Bernardine Church and its cells of XVII century
Church of Jan Nepomuk of ХІХ century
St. Elijah’s Cathedral beg. of the XX century
Secular and commercial and industrial buildings of the XVIII-XIX centuries. in the central part of the city.
The departments operating in the reserve are: historical department, funds department, tourism department, department of the management and investment, department of a scientific and educational activity, department of protection of historical, cultural and architectural monuments and restoration workshops. Thanks to the hard work of scientific workers, new thematic exhibitions are being opened, new tourist routes and tours are being developed, scientific conferences are being held, funds are being replenished, new local history publications are being issued, restoration and constructional work is continuously underway.
For the visitors of Dubno Castle 9 main museum expositions function on a regular basis, variable exhibitions are continuously updated, innovative tours in the form of virtual augmented reality are being performed.
A unique exhibition “History of instruments of torture and punishment”, which is located in the dungeon of the Ostrozky palace, also deserves a special attention.
The staff of the institution provides interesting and educational tours, including the ones in a theatrical form for any category of visitors. In Dubno Castle, a tour in easy language is available for the visitors with intellectual disabilities.
