In 1975 Rivne regional museum of local lore was established in the building of a former gymnasium (1829), its history is connected with such names as Mykola Kostomarov, Panteleymon Kulish, Mykhail Drahomanov, Volodymyr Korolenko, Saymon Smith, Ivan Ohienko.
Today, around 140 thousand objects of a museum significance are exhibited and preserved in the museum. They represent archeological, ethnographic, numismatical, natural collections, documents, awards, personal things of famous figures of the region.
Works of a Volyn iconography, items of Cossacks era, collection of old prints and sculptures of a native of Rivne region European sculptor Tomash-Oscar Sosnovsky have a special place in the collection of the museum.
Permanent exhibitions dedicated to the Ukrainian Insurgent Army, modern defenders of Ukraine, history of Rivne are a great interest of visitors.
Exhibitions that represent archeological and ethnographic materials are of a very original character. You cannot help but feel the beauty, uniqueness and originality of the Rivne region in the halls, that tell a story of flora and fauna, water resources, geology of the region, of Volyn amber.
On the territory of the museum, there is an observation deck, where a Cossack boat of the ХVII century, different sorts of artillery, vehicles of the middle of XX century, an airplane ЯК-50 and other showpieces are exhibited.
Having a festival of a folklore and ethnographic holiday “Museum guests” on the territory of the museum on the fourth Sunday of May, in which folk craftsmen of Rivne and neighboring areas take part, became a tradition.
Ulas Samchuk Literary Museum and Amber Museum located in Rivne on the Symon Petlura 17 st. are departments of the museum of local lore.
