The National Museum of Folk Architecture and Life of Ukraine (other names: “Pirogiv”, “Open-Air Museum in Pirogovo”) is an open-air museum, open-air museum, architectural and landscape complex of all historical and ethnographic regions of Ukraine. Located on the southern outskirts of Kiev, near the area of Pies. The total area of the complex is 133.5 hectares. The museum was founded in 1969, and in 1976 it became open to visitors.
This museum is the largest in Ukraine and one of the largest in Europe. The museum presents the main ethnographic zones of Ukraine: Polissya, Dnieper, Slobozhanshchina, Carpathians, Podillya and Tavria. Pies is a huge living fairy tale, where Ukrainian houses, wide fields, shady paths, mills, pagan stone idols and black Orthodox churches from time to time mixed. A wonderful place to relax on the picturesque outskirts of Kiev.
The exhibits of the museum are real artifacts – the houses were brought here from different parts of Ukraine to present all the richness and diversity of traditional Ukrainian architecture. Each house has a plaque explaining from which village it was brought, and inside the interiors are recreated, reflecting the life of Ukrainians of the XIX – early XX centuries
