About place

First mentioned in the list of homeowners in 1862 as belonging of the Roman-Catholic Chapter. Since that time it was used for residence. In the second half of ХІХ century local government rented it for its institutions. In 1890 a family of the leader of the county nobility Petro Antonovich Kosach resided on the second floor in the Perekop.  That means that two prominent poets of Ukraine lived there: Lesya Ukrainka – Larysa Kosach and her mother Olga Kosach – Olena Pchilka. During the World War I instead of officials, different military organizations and Austrian officers resided here. During the German occupation under the walls of the house, there was a border of Jewish ghetto. After the World War II different local and regional organizations settled down in the house – design office, savings bank, travel and excursion office. In 1964 a museum of Lesya Ukrainka was opened in 3 of the rooms (room-museum “Lesina vitalnya”)
