Rivne has a long history and rich traditions of brewing, a living testimony of which is the Rivne Brewery (now LLC “Rivne LTD”), which was founded in the middle of the XIX century and has survived to our time. According to the report of the Volyn governor, the year of foundation of the Rivne brewery is 1847 – at that time it produced products worth 990 rubles.
The further flourishing of beer production in Rivne is associated with the activities of Czech immigrants who actively immigrated to the Russian Empire during the 1860s and at the end of the decade appeared in the Rivne district of Volyn guberniya.
The expansion of industrial beer production in Rivne is associated with the opening in 1900 of production facilities of the Steam Brewery “Bergschloss”, which met the needs of the city and surrounding towns both under Russian rule and later, during the Second Polish Republic.
The Bergschloss plant was nationalized by the Soviet authorities in the first months after the Soviet troops entered Rivne in September 1939. Subsequently, the company continued to produce beer during the German occupation of 1941-44.
The company was privatized in the 1990s and today under the name “Riven LTD” sells and enriches the ancient traditions of brewing in Rivne.
